BACKGROUND OF UCOMS
UCOMS is one of the oldest private universities in Ghana. It grew out of the Feeds Careers College, a tutorial institution established in 1974 at Ayeduase, Kumasi by Dr. Sazrar Opata, proprietor of UCOMS. The focus at that time was to provide tutorials for those who could not enter post secondary institution to enable them obtain British qualifications like LCCI,RSA,CIS and others.
In 1978, the programme structure was changed to promote business education in Ghana and the name Feeds Careers College became Institute Of Management Studies (IMS) offering courses in Sales Management and Marketing Management and affiliated to two American Universities. The American programmes were later discontinued due to foreign exchange constraints.
In 1980,the focus shifted to CIM,ABE,CIPS,ACCA,ACMA, Diploma in Export Marketing and Diploma in Journalism and affiliated to some Universities in UK.
In 1998,IMS was accredited to offer professional course like ACCA,CIM, and CIPS. This continued till 2006 when IMS was given the nod by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) to mount degree programmes and the name IMS changed to University College Of Management Studies.
UCOMS has two campuses; Kumasi and Accra.
ACCREDITATION
UCOMS has full accreditation from the Accreditation Board to run the Degree and Diploma Programmes. This means that our admission requirements, students/staffs rations and facilities are adhere to those prescribed by the National Accreditation Board for all Tertiary levels Institutions.
AFFILIATION
THE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE is affiliated to the UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION,WINNEBA (UEW) and KWAME NKRUMAH UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (KNUST).
As a college, our degrees are awarded by UEW.
